The first impression is the lasting impression for contemporary poetry book covers along with its titles. Content is seen when the purchase is made or on prior faith on poet’s previous collection, merit and awards. The way international publication community has picked up conceptual designing as a challenge, India, is still lagging behind except for some extraordinaire publication houses with international presence. Strangely, it is the mediocre understanding of what a designer should do. My freelance experience with ad and social media company discovers that designers are never asked onboard and unleash their creative madness in terms of conceptualizing author’s requirement. Copy writers and designers are creatures from different planets and usually insoluble.
But there are publication houses that realize the importance of great cover designing thus great marketing. Lets see some amazing covers of some award winning poetry books from around the world! And I bet, these books are ‘beauty with the brains’!
